A new spin on a New Years Resolution

After reading my sisters blog (http://www.amysrunninglife.com/) and looking at her list of 2008 resolutions that didn't quite make it (although, she achieved alot) as well as knowing my own that didn't happen, I decided that this year I would make "One" and only one resolution. But then I watched a video posted on Facebook by Alex Hyman (a photographer in Greenville, SC). He had a great idea; don't make specific resolutions, make a New Years "Theme". What a great Idea!

My New Years theme is "Health and Wellness" (both physical and mental). I decided on this theme because I put on my newest race shirt and realized that it was a year old. Plus it goes well with my new blog. So, I could have made a list of things I want to achieve like; Run a sub 30min 5K, be able to do 80 sit ups in 2 min, or even be debt free by 2010. But if I didn't achieve any one of these I'd feel just like everybody else does at the end of the year, like I failed. However, with my theme as Health and Wellness, if at the end of 2009 my best 5k time is 30:35 then I still kept my theme because that's better than my current time. I may not be debt free by the end of this year but if I make a dent then that is certainly going to help my mental wellness. So thanks to Alex for giving me a new outlook on the New Year!

I actually started off yesterday by logging a 4 mile walk/jog during what would have otherwise been time that I watched too much TV. It took me 40 min (more walk than jog), and I only missed two episodes of Seinfeld but thanks to TBS there were 2 more on when I got home (keeping the TV off is going to be a hard one for me). Tomorrow I will be joining my sister, her husband, and several of their friends for an annual New Years Day run (they will run, I will walk/jog).

I hope everyone has a great 2009!
